The stepping stones are the main reason that people visit this area
This is Thorpe Cloud - a limestone hill with an elevation of some 940 feet. A climb for another day!
A close up of the top of the hill
This is me on the top of Lovers Leap taking a photo of Graham who was a little lower
And this is what we could see, a view of the limestone rocks known as the Twelve Apostles
Tissington Spires
To try to give a sense of scale there is a man climbing up the rockface
Jacob's Ladder
The arch leading to Reynard's Cave.
Reynard's Cave is said to have been the home of a local brigand. A few years ago Roman and late Iron Age coins were found in one of the caves.
From the cave looking back down towards the path
This is the path we took to get back. It's very steep and narrow plus it was tricky because of the loose rocks
Ilam Rock
Dove Holes
The landscape in the White Peak is totally different from The Dark Peak. Green rolling hills and dales instead of the dark gritty moors. Both beautiful in their own right.
After leaving the riverside at Milldale we took a path upwards - very steeply upwards!! Then we meandered slowly back down gently sloping paths to the river
Pickering Tor
We didn't see much wildlife
I think this was the highlight of Graham's day. He managed to capture this grey wagtail just as it had caught the grub for breakfast.
