Alnwick part 2

On Wednesday we drove up to Seahouses and walked along the beach for around 4 miles to Bamburgh. It turned out to be a very hot day but there was a sea breeze so it wasn't too uncomfortable.

From the coastline we could see The Farne Islands. We didn't take the boat trip this time but it's one for a future visit.

It was very hot in the town as there was no breeze so we stopped off for lunch and a cool drink in the shade. We visited the Grace Darling Memorial at St Aidan's Church but didn't take any photos. Click on the link if you would like to know more.
We were going to return to Seahouses by an inland route but decided to walk back along the beach as it was so much cooler.

On Thursday we drove to Amble

Hauxley Wildlife Centre

We just about got back to the car before the storm arrived. It only lasted a few minutes and by the time we arrived at Alnmouth the sun was shining again.

Northumberland is definitely somewhere I would like to go again. Maybe a little further north next time or maybe further inland towards the country park

Alnwick

Last week we took a short break to Alnwick in Northumberland. The castle, owned by the Duke of Northumberland, was used in the filming of some of the Harry Potter films and also Downton Abbey.

We didn't go into the castle but we did take a walk around the grounds

The following day the weather wasn't too bad when we set off for Craster to take a walk to Low Newton by the Sea. However, the rain set in and we got rather wet.

Craster Harbour

There must have been hundreds of birds on these cliffs and they made such a racket!

We continued our walk along the beach and sat for a while just watching and listening to the waves

So, these are a few of the photos from Monday and Tuesday. The remainder of the week will follow....
