Conwy

On Wednesday we went over to Conwy, North Wales. Conwy is a world heritage site with a 13th Century Castle and walls surrounding the town. It also has the smallest house in Great Britain.

We started off our day by walking along the North Wales coastal path by the Conwy Estuary then sitting at the marina with a cup of coffee. The town across the river is Deganwy.

We then took a stroll along the tops of the town walls. The views are wonderful.
Unfortunately, the castle is being renovated and is partly covered with scaffolding

Haddon Hall, Bakewell

Haddon Hall is a beautiful, fortified medieval manor house near Bakewell, Derbyshire. It dates from the 12th Century to the early 17th Century, whereupon it lay dormant for over two hundred years from 1700 until the 1920s, when the 9th Duke and Duchess of Rutland restored the house and gardens, and once again made it habitable.

We began our tour in the Chapel of St Nicholas, built in the 15th Century. It has an alabaster reredos (altar screen) and original paintings on the walls

The chapel is situated to the right of this tower

The Lower Courtyard entrance porch is surrounded by beautiful climbing roses

A few photos of the interior. There was a pre-production film crew in the hall when we visited and we were unable to take many photos.

We really enjoyed our visit and the gardens have given Graham some food for thought :)
