The Great Ridge

Yesterday was cool, windy and cloudy but was forecast to be the best day of the weekend so after much discussion of where to go we took a trip back to Mam Tor and The Great Ridge.

Three Edges

In January this year we visited this area but didn't have the time - or energy! - to walk White, Froggatt and Curbar Edges and so yesterday we re-visited to complete our journey. The sun was shining and the sky was blue. A perfect day for walking.

We parked up and set off across White Edge Moor.

The trig point at White Edge

Time for lunch. What a view :)

Lady's Cross, below, is a medieval wayside and boundary cross which marks both an ancient crossroads on Big Moor in the East Moors of the Peak District

The Stone Circle - not very impressive but is thought to date back to the Bronze Age

 Curbar Edge

The view from Curbar Edge over to Baslow Edge

Couldn't quite believe how many birds were sitting on this fence. There had been more but some had flown away

The heather is almost done now but we did manage to see some still in bloom

We got talking to an older gentleman when we were at the Trig Point and he pointed out the deer on the moor. Wish they'd been a little closer

Well, I managed to stay upright again and my shoes were still clean at the end of our walk. A great walk and looking forward to the next one :)
